We are one of eight Centres across England who work with local government groupings in order to bring together specialist skills under the leadership of the Centre Director in order to strengthen the local presence.
Through our staff team of around 100 (full time equivalent) we;

  1. Work with local partners to ensure we deliver PHE’s functions in the places we serve.
  2. Nurture and support the local public health system and maintain an overview of the whole system’s progress in implementing the Public Health Outcomes Framework.
  3. Are we responsible for developing the specialist and wider public health workforce

Our centre is organised so that we work in an interconnected way across three areas:

  1. Functional domain areas (Health Protection, Health and Wellbeing and Healthcare Public Health Divisions and the Corporate Management Team);
  2. Programme Lead areas (for example: Children & Young People, Tuberculosis, Sustainability, Offender Healthcare, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Learning & Development, Informatics & Intelligence and Healthcare Acquired Infections);
  3. Via 14 dedicated relationship managers corresponding to the 14 unitary/upper tier local authorities.
    We work with a variety of other local stakeholders across the West Midlands and our approach is underpinned by a focus on health inequalities and health equity.
