Better Births: Improving prevention for a safe and healthy pregnancy in the West Midlands

On Wednesday 20th February 2019,  PHE West Midlands organised a regional event focusing on Work Stream 9 (Improving Prevention) of the Maternity Transformation Plan.   The event was intended to engage relevant colleagues from local public health, Clinical Commissioning Groups, clinical networks and local maternity systems and focus on the seven national public health priority areas:

  1. Increase the number of women having a smoke free pregnancy
  2. Increase the number of babies breastfed at 6 months
  3. Reduce the burden of perinatal mental illness
  4. Embed public health and prevention across the maternity pathway
  5. Increase the number of women entering pregnancy that are a healthy weight
  6. Improve planning and preparation for pregnancy
  7. Improve the transition from midwifery to health visiting
